Men need to play catch up
NY Daily News

When powerful female clients come to her office, Patti Stanger tells them to "check their penis at the door." Stanger, star of the Bravo show "The Millionaire Matchmaker," offers valuable advice.

Women shouldn't seek to dominate men in their romantic lives the way they dominate their respective career fields, but they also shouldn't lower their standards to find a relationship. A woman who is successful and confident shouldn't have to compromise who she is or what she has rightfully earned to find love, companionship and commitment.

Powerful women are accused of intimidating men, making them feel insecure or insufficient. But maybe it is men who need to change. After all, women are becoming increasingly more comfortable embracing their prosperity; it's the boys who often have trouble getting their arms around it.

The Biggest Abuse of Power and Arrogance Washington Has Ever Seen
FOXNews.com

In President Obama’s first State of the Union address, only mere months ago, he pledged to focus on jobs and stressed that it would be priority number one. After last night’s contested, contentious and downright partisan vote on health care, one that took rule manipulation and arm-twisting to achieve, it is clear that perversion and power lust are paramount to all else.

It is the biggest abuse of power and demonstration of arrogance ever shown by Washington, and it surely is the most gigantic and life-altering legislative move of my generation. In short, its impact can’t be underestimated.

America, after a year long battle, we've learned a lot.

We now know all about the secret deals: the Cornhusker Kickback, The Gator Aid and the Louisiana Purchase that use taxpayer money that our country doesn’t have to bribe lawmakers for their votes.

We know that this bill will not maintain quality. What is likely to happen for the average person is that the government will exert pressure to keep premiums lower and the industry will respond by offering standardized, shoddy and non-innovative products.

We know that people will now be fighting political battles to get a CAT scan or a cancer drug. Those who are ill won’t get the care they need because of some insurance company rule (that was ultimately determined by the government).

Shortly before the vote on Sunday evening, Speaker Pelosi and other Democratic so-called “feminists” called being a woman a “pre-existing condition”and argued that this bill will solve these injustices. Waiting for breast cancer screenings until age 50 is now in our the future. This bill is a nightmare for women and a nightmare for a sick person.

We know the premise that this will reduce the deficit is a hoax. The Congressional Budget Office does its analysis in a vacuum. It needs to complete its score based on assumption. Democrats can write anything into a bill and the CBO must do the tally. Even if the left writes into a bill that the revenues from a piece of legislation that will bring down the debt are coming from a pot of gold, guarded by a magic unicorn at the end of a rainbow in 2017, the CBO must score it. All of the “assumptions” that are written into this bill as almost as unlikely as that magic pot of gold (like the tax on Cadillac insurance plans in 2017).

We know, too, that once you go down the slippery slope of offering government subsidies, it’s almost impossible to climb back up. The penalty for not having insurance under the bill is far less than the cost of insurance, meaning that the people who will obtain insurance are the people who participate in the welfare portion of the new program and get these subsidies. Average Americans will be paying for all these new welfare recipients with income we don't have because of the lack of jobs we so desperately need.

Even worse, others will wait until they are sick to get insurance. You and I will be paying for the freeloaders who break their legs, sign up for insurance upon arrival to the hospital and then throw their membership out with their crutches. This is a growing issue in Massachusetts where Romneycare is failing. Democrats didn’t have the political guts to make the penalty for failure to obtain insurance high enough. Because of that cowardly move we all will pay.

We know that the most disgraceful premise of this bill uses the U.S. tax code to legislate a liberal value. Forcing people to buy insurance is unprecedented. Our government has taxed us for what we buy (i.e.: tobacco) but they have never taxed us on what we don’t buy. It’s akin to telling us what kind of car to purchase or where to buy groceries! It will open the door to whole host of mandates beyond health insurance. It didn’t work in the Soviet Union and it won’t work here.

We know that under President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and Leader Reid the title of “United” States of America no longer applies. Though candidate Obama ran on a promise to change the way Washington worked, President Obama has only exacerbated it.

The change we can believe in has resulted in something that is virtually unbelievable. We know that there is now one thing left to do: since Speaker Pelosi couldn’t drain the swamp as she pledged to, the American people will have to do it for her.

Baier's Obama Interview Reveals the Mood of a Man Whose Presidency is on the Line
President Obama is a man who rarely loses his cool. He’s a smooth customer who is able to charm with his words and moves – except when the audience is Fox News’ Bret Baier.

During his exclusive interview with President Obama, which aired on Fox News earlier this week, Baier, one of the sharpest and fairest journalists in the business deftly exposed a side of the President that the public rarely sees.

This rare window showcased a dismissive, pestered and unprepared commander in chief. When asked about how Democrats were planning on passing the unpopular health care bill, Obama wore his annoyance with Baier on his sleeve, and was resistant to engage with specificity. Baier, unwilling to back down, cornered him on the manipulative legislative tactics being employed by his party.

“If they vote against, then they're going to be voting against health care reform and they're going to be voting in favor of the status quo,” Obama said. “So Washington gets very concerned about these procedural issues in Congress… ”

Rules, schmooles, says the President.

He seemed unconcerned with the shenanigans of Democratic leadership and process, refusing to respond to Baier’s questions about tricks like the Slaughter Strategy, except to say the process was “ugly” no matter which party was in power.

Mr. President, you are the commander in chief and you campaigned on changing the culture of Washington, not riding shotgun to it.

Baier was firm, respectful and persistent. He pressed him on process and policy; Obama was devoid on details for both. For someone who has been working on this effort for over a year, you’d think Obama would have a better handle on the policy but instead, the process has been so convoluted, so complicated, and so perverse it was apparent that even he can’t keep up with the talking points.

He also, unintentionally, revealed that he is unsure what’s even in the legislation.

“By the time the vote has taken place, not only I will know what's in it, you'll know what's in it because it's going to be posted and everybody's going to be able to able to evaluate it on the merits,” Obama answered.

Shouldn’t we -- and shouldn’t the president -- know what’s in it before it passes?

In typical Obama fashion he tried to stonewall his interregator and run out the clock, but Baier – the only anchor to do so thus far -- rightly called him out on his trademark filibustering, in other words talking at length to prevent Baier from challenging him on his verbose responses. It was the most uncomfortable moment of the segment, and Baier should be proud. That took guts.

The interview was more than telling, it was symbolic. The contrast of Baier’s peak performace revealed an Obama at a career low. His questions revealed the uncertainty of our leader -- and thus the direction of our country, and reflected the mood of man whose presidency is on the line.

Pelosi's on the edge
NY Daily News

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is prepared to sacrifice her members like lambs to the slaughter. Literally.

Pelosi (D-Calif.) is so desperate to get health care passed this week before members take a break that she will likely employ the "Slaughter Strategy" - a very appropriately named, arrogant abuse of House rules that would allow members of Pelosi's caucus to simply vote on changes to the Senate bill and "deem" the bill passed without a member ever having to choose "aye" or "nay."

Think of it this way: You don't want to take a test because you know you'll fail. So you just give yourself an A without even picking up a pencil. If it sounds outrageous, that's because it is. (Funny how real life examples so deftly expose the absurdity and arrogance of Washington.)

This tactic is another blatant, last-gasp abuse of the legislative process. And it's one that Pelosi and Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-Buffalo) were against before they were in favor. It would permit Democrats to manipulate the truth when discussing the health care bill from now until Election Day without technically lying (Be prepared to hear: "Oh, I didn't vote for that stinker of a health care bill. Nope. Not me.")

To break it down, Pelosi has two options: pull the bill or (in her own words) "kick it through the door."

Bailing on the bill now would be a double-barreled loss. It means she loses her speakership because Democrats will presumably lose dozens of seats, and the party won't be able to claim victory on health reform.

Instead, she'll blaze forward, recognizing that Democrats own this bill and can't turn their backs.

Pelosi figures that if she must deal with all the heartache that will ensue no matter what, then why not do what it takes to win and hope the country loves it? If she's arrogant enough to move ahead with unpopular policy, she's arrogant enough to believe she can prove the voters wrong and make them love this legislation by the time the midterm elections come. Good luck with that.

With the nonvote vote, Pelosi is once again siding with her liberal base rather than seeking to preserve a reasonable majority and reflecting the will of the people who oppose this lunge to the left.

Together, Slaughter and the speaker are a tag team that represents the tyranny of the majority - they'll flout laws and forge ahead without restraint to win at all costs, demonstrating that public trust means nothing. They've lost their minds. Next up? The House of Representatives.

Politically, Pelosi understands that she will lose the liberal base unless she strong-arms the bill into the end zone, and if she loses that estimated 20% of her party at the polls, November will be a bloodbath.

A nice thinning of her ranks could do her some good, she figures. She could stand a few less heads in her caucus, especially if she doesn't have to spend hours knocking those heads around so that they see things her way.

Still, pro-life Democrats, Blue Dogs and moderates like Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) have caused Pelosi major headaches. Stupak's stink about the abortion language early on ignited a media firestorm that hasn't died down.

Stupak's opposition - along with about a dozen other moderates - is preventing Pelosi from hitting the magical number of 216 for passage. The rebellion continues to play out in the headlines, undermining Pelosi's argument that she could pass the bill if brought to a vote and cement people's confidence in her as a leader.

Moderate Democrats are the thorns in her side. If she had a more homogenous lefty bunch - a bunch of mini-Pelosi's - she wouldn't have to resort to such egregious legislative procedures, her weaknesses wouldn't be exposed and many people could stop questioning her ability to lead. She could spend more time getting her hair done at the Ritz, and less time stressing out over a bucket of ice cream for breakfast.

As President Obama encourages all of us to have "courage" to move forward on health reform, Pelosi is saying the same thing to her moderates, who happen to be standing in front of a cliff. If I were a House Democrat, I'd be petrified. That includes you, Ms. Pelosi.

Manipulation, payoff and lies: the endgame to healthcare
FOXNews.com

Democrats have convinced themselves that it would be far worse to do nothing on health care than listen to the concerns of the public. And they have demonstrated they will stop at nothing to get some form of legislation passed – even using the House Rules Committee to draft a new rule that would make it possible for Speaker Pelosi to pass the bill without an actual vote!

This jaw-dropping abuse of power has appropriately been labeled the “Slaughter Strategy” after Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) the tactic’s chief architect and a close Pelosi ally. It would give members of the Democratic Caucus cover. Why, you ask? Because it would skip the step that would force our lawmakers to place an “aye” vote next to a radioactive, unpopular piece of legislation that they will have to defend until Election Day in the fall.

This type of manipulation of government process might be the most perverse we’ve seen to date.

Why are they doing this, you might ask? Pelosi needs to employ any game plan she can to get her way since she’s poised to lose about a dozen members over the issue of federal funding of abortion. Though Bart Stupak, and others, will hold firm, there are members of Congress who will cave in to the Speaker’s wishes from pressure. Think of it this way: the vote on health care reform will be the defining moment that showcases who the true pro-life Democrats really are.

The White House will also help Speaker Pelosi any way it can to drag the bloody body that is the health care bill over the finish line. The Associated Press reported on Friday that though Obama has railed against the "ugly process" of cutting special deals, the president and his top advisers were prime time players in negotiations on the agreements to win votes and move the legislation forward.

So what exactly will they promise the members to get their way?

Answer: A lot. And a lot of those promises will include various ways to spend your money.

As of now, the votes for passage aren’t there. No less an expert than the House Democratic Whip revealed that the party is short of the votes on Sunday’s “Meet the Press.” This is despite Pelosi’s intentional deception to portray the picture as otherwise last Wednesday when she insisted she would have the 216 needed for victory if the bill was brought to the floor. But that was a lie; if she had the support necessary we would be watching a vote on C-SPAN. You’ve gotta believe that the second she hits the magic number, a vote will immediately be called.

This week will reveal the harsh reality of corruption in the Democratic leadership. All of the Democrat’s lip service on “change you can believe in” (Obama) and “cleaning up the swamp” (Pelosi) will be exposed as hollow and untrue. No matter the cost – financial or political – the left is prepared to do whatever it takes to score a win. But that’s the thing about cost, eventually you have to pay. And pay they will.

Sadly, so will we.

Massa: fracking his own party
Threats, nudity, shower showdowns, allegations of booze fueled sexual harassment, investigations, resignations…no, it’s not a screenplay about Washington, D.C. written by Larry Flynt. It’s the sad reality of a week in our nation’s capitol.

The timeline is tricky, but see if you can follow: this past Friday New York Congressman Eric Massa resigned when news broke he was under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for allegedly attempting to sexually harass a male staffer after too many Harvey Wallbanger's at a wedding.

After the aforementioned staffer suggested his tipsy boss should make a play for a bridesmaid, the married Massa spouted, “what I really ought to be doing is fracking you." Massa said he “tousled” the guy’s hair and ran away.

What exactly is “fracking”? Was Massa attempting to say something else but in between the slurring and background noise of the "Electric Slide," was misheard? What does “tousling” actually entail, and what self-respecting man uses that term? So many questions.

Sunday, the married Massa shifted gears, running to the media to announce that he was strong armed out of Congress by the White House and the Democratic leadership in the House because he was a "no vote" on the terminally plagued health care bill (because nobody really resigns over salty language at a boozy wedding).

In a now famous radio interview, Massa went rogue on Rahm Emanuel, recalling in creepy detail two occasions where Obama's Chief of Staff cursed him out -- including once when the two men were standing naked in the congressional showers.

Despite a portion of this account going down in the shower, this just sounds dirty. (You know what they say, where there’s suds…)

Massa then called Rahm the "son of the devil's spawn" and a bunch of other really mean stuff.
Where to begin?

This latest drama comes on the heels of a two-week long side show of dysfunction in New York state with scandal embroiled and ethically-challenged Governor David Patterson and New York Congressman Charlie Rangel stepping down from his Ways and Means chairmanship amid scandal.

Despite the dizzying tale of two crazies, Massa and Emanuel, Nancy Pelosi has claimed she didn’t know that any of this – from the sexual allegations to the ethics investigation – was happening.

According to Politico, Pelosi said Thursday that her staff kept her out of the loop about a “rumor” that Massa made unwanted advances on a male staffer, even though Majority Leader Steny Hoyer had known about the allegations for weeks.

Why was Pelosi not informed of this investigation? What did the Speaker know and when did she know it? Is she lying or operating on another planet?

Someone needs to file a complaint with the House Ethics committee – so who was it? And should more have been done for something so serious? Pelosi certainly seemed to think so in 2006 when then Congressman Mark Foley was facing his own ethics troubles.

Massa claims the ethics investigation was a witch hunt to try to force him out by his colleagues and the White House for his opposition to health reform efforts (Massa voted no on the House version of the bill).

But that still fails to explain why Massa already – and very publicly – accepted responsibility for his wedding behavior saying his actions were “inappropriate.”

Massa is a man on a mission, now preparing to embark on a media tour to tell his side of the story. The White House denies that it orchestrated Massa’s ouster, calling the claims "ridiculous" but when will Speaker Pelosi start talking?

This is another terrible storyline that includes incompetence, impropriety and chaos that is rooted in the troubled health care narrative -- one that Republicans should stay far away from, particularly when it comes to defending Massa. The American people are already disgusted with the policies and the processs, now they've been handed another unsettling storyline to prompt even more unease.

Even if Democrats manage to jimmy some version of a health care bill through Congress, how can they ever regain the public's confidence?

While this story seems far from over with many details still unclear, one thing is clear: the real fracking is the one Massa is giving his own party.
